How It Started
Rock Wood Beyond Travels was founded by a small team of Ugandan guides and tourism professionals who were tired of seeing East Africa sold as a checklist.
We grew up around Bwindi, Mgahinga, and Queen Elizabeth National Park - guiding, translating, and helping visitors long before we started the company. In 2021 we came together to build a tour operator that puts local knowledge and conservation first.
What's in a Name
The name comes from two things you'll see on every trip: the rocky trails of the Virunga mountains where gorillas live, and the bamboo woodlands that shelter them.
It's a reminder that the land is tough, beautiful, and worth protecting.
Our Approach
We're small by design. That means no call centers, no outsourced guides, and no 40-person bus tours. You'll deal directly with the person planning your trip, and the same team meets you when you land in Entebbe.
Based in Kampala with guides on the ground in southwestern Uganda. Our core routes cover Bwindi, Mgahinga, Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, and Lake Mburo - plus cross-border trips into Rwanda.
